  • 1903 EMBOSSED POSTCARDHere's what I do to my hair:

  • I don’t do much to it. I wash it, put conditioner on it, rinse it off, squirt lemon juice from a squirt bottle (like ReaLemon), work it through and rinse it off to get rid of the excess conditioner. Now that my hair is longer and the weather is warm, I don’t even blow-dry my hair: I wrap it in a microfiber towel, wait for a hour, take off the towel, comb the hair with a wide-tooth comb, part it, and go about my business, shaking my hair from time to time. I don’t use preparations such as gel, hairspray, pomade or mousse; I stopped that a long time ago. It just makes my hair sticky or brittle.  I don’t use hair spray because it makes it hard to breath when I spray it. Did you know it contains butane? Butane is something I don't want anywhere near my hair. Butane, you see, is a petroleum substance that is highly flammable. I do not put flammable substances on me.

  • All I use to color my hair is henna. I get it at a Kurdish grocery store.

  • I do the ion footbath.

  • I eat a lot of superfood such as spirulina. I put flax seed meal, a green supplement from Trader Joe’s and lecithin granules into my smoothies. That way I get a lot of superoxide dismutase, B vitamins and beta-carotene (the form of Vitamin A that you can digest).

  • I have a couple of packs of Emergen-C every day.

  • I brush my hair with boar bristle brushes, once in the morning and once before bed, but not a hundred strokes. I just brush it enough to get out the tangles.

  • I use a shampoo that doesn’t contain sodium laureth sulfate. It isn’t expensive, either —it’s Whole Foods’ 365 brand, and I get the unscented kind for use in the summer because scents get very strong on me in the summer. I intend to try using soapberries since I’ve read reviews that it’s great for washing your hair---you don’t need conditioner, just a rinse with lemon juice.

  • I take a Vitamin E supplement and  Vitamin D3 supplement---this vitamin doesn’t just keep your bones healthy, it works for your skin and hair too!

  • Here is what I DON’T do:

  • Perming, bleaching, dyeing and styling---no special styling combs and whatnot, no styling preparations. I don’t put it up in ponytails; I use banana clips instead. I don’t use bobby pins; I use combs and barrettes---that is, nothing that crimps the hair shaft. I don’t lay out in the sun or use tanning beds.

  • Then there’s creative visualization---I think a lot about the type of hair I want, speak it aloud, and keep pictures nearby for visual reinforcement, such as Naomi’s picture.

Atomidine

You can get Atomidine off Amazon. It is not expensive. The dose is one drop and the bottle I got from Heritage Products says that there are a thousand doses in the bottle. I can tell a difference with my immune system since I started taking an iodine supplement; if I get a cut, I heal up and the scar eventually disappears.

Ladies in the old pictures

There are women who would do anything for vanity, but it should be pointed out to them that the ladies in the old pictures didn't have Slimfast, hairspray, gel, or frosting, dyeing or perming, blowdryers, nylon brushes and harsh shampoo. They just had three meals, exercise, lye soap and vinegar. And it worked.
