Biotin and Hair Growth

Biotin is a water-soluble B-complex vitamin (vitamin B7 / vitamin H).  Our bodies make Biotin.  Biotin deficiency is rare, and not likely in healthy people.  Your intestinal bacteria makes small amount of Biotin to keep you going.

However, eating lots of RAW egg whites will cause Biotin deficiency, resulting in total, bodily, hair loss.  So no RAW egg whites!!!  Wikipedia has a good list of causes....  Click here.

Now, what about hair growth?   It appears that taking large amounts of Biotin will speed up growth, and make hair healthier.  Right now, I am not sure why.  Except for maybe, healthy hair needs more Biotin than just what is made in your intestines.  How much more... I don't know right now.

I have to caution some who might think 'more is better'.  There is a serious nutritional balance to consider, and till I dig more for answers, don't start taking handfuls of Biotin.
