Carnitine (L-Carnitine)
Note: Vitamin C is required for the synthesis of carnitine!!!
Your body produces carnitine in the liver and kidneys. It then gets stored in tissues that use fat as a source of energy, such as skeletal and heart muscle. Carnitine can also be found in foods such as meat or dairy products.
L-Carnitine is combined and assimilated into the body by way of the amino acid Lysine (L). L-Carnitine plays a factor in the actual transfer of fatty acid groups into the mitochondria proper disposal and energy production.
May facilitate the growth of hair, and the growth in male pattern baldness.
Carnitine may also help...
- Sustain life extension, and is good for the brain, blood, heart, and muscles. As we age, we will decrease in Carnitine levels within the body.
- Good for the heart muscle.
- Breaking down fat molecules to be used as energy.
- Treat Crohn's disease and assist people prone to vomiting.
- Treat ulcerative colitis and help symptoms of chronic kidney failure.
- Prevent cataracts.
- The immune system, prevent liver cancer and increase white blood cells.
- Function as a secondary antioxidant.
- Improve athletic performance
- Lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol, help with chronic fatigue syndrome and may help prevent Type 2 Diabetes. Increases energy and help with exercise.
- Reverse hyperthyroidism.
- Alleviate obesity.
- With osteoporosis, arthritis and skeletal issues.
- Carnitine concentrates in the brain and improves the function of the mitochondria in the brain.
- In some cases, will elevate anemia.
- Prevent cardiovascular disease.
Other notes...
- Carnitine deficiency may cause various muscle aliments, cramps and damage.
- Autism patients are commonly found to be deficient in carnitine.
- Carnitine produces cellular energy, and maintence supply to individual cells. a sustain energy throughout the day.
- Best source of carnitine is from Lamb.
- Fatigue may occur as a result of carnitine deficiency. 2000mg/day may prevent the fatigue. Takes time to reverse this condition.
- Caraitine is primarily stored in the heart., where it facilitates cardiac contractions.
L-Carnitine
"This amino acid, commonly contained in energy drinks and
weight loss supplements, was recently found to promote hair
growth. Scientists of the University of Hamburg have
discovered that L-carnitine stimulates hair growth by
increasing the energy supply to the hair matrix and can be
used to treat alopecia and other forms of hair loss (Foitzik
et al. 2007)"

"Applying topical L-carnitine to your scalp can actually
increase the number of hairs on your head, according to a
recent study in The Journal of Dermatological Science.
L-carnitine, an essential amino acid that transports fatty
acids into mitochondria (cells' metabolic furnace),
works like fertilizer, increasing the metabolic activity of
the cells, which helps hair grow strong and healthy."
